If you don’t know Charlene Kaye, here’s your ice-breaker. Kaye’s a special talent out of NY (via Singapore via Hawaii via Arizona etc…), a gifted singer and total professional when it comes to making pop music sound strange and strange music sound catchy. Her sophomore effort is ‘Animal Love,’ funded by a super successful Kickstarter campaign (aimed for $20k; ended with $33k). The resulting ten tracks explain the generous extra 13 grand. The album’s a gratifying tour through pop hooks and slight-of-hand production, clever and honest and appealing just like the lady herself.
